NO WORDS

I have always loved to draw, but I fell in love with painting after watching the graffiti documentary Style Wars in 1984. What captivated me was the illusion of space—the emergence of a third dimension within painted forms—and how those images interacted with the uneven, physical surfaces of 1970s New York subway cars.

This play between pictorial illusion and sculptural reality has informed my painting and relief work for many years. I am less interested in creating a perfectly convincing illusion of space; instead, I allow the paint itself to do the heavy lifting. Through texture, surface, and material presence, the work negotiates its own spatial logic—hovering between image and object.

This show includes works created over a 5 year period that all interrogate the rarefied world of pictorial space and make fun of painting.
