IAIN CHEESMAN
A CUP FULL OF CLOUDS
FEBRUARY 9 - MARCH 9

The gallery returns to our 2024 calendar with a solo show from Auckland based artist Iain Cheesman.

Iain is primarily a maker of objects that link sculpture with painting, poetry and the concept of drawing. There is often an underlying sense of humour layered within his work. This is a medium of communication that delivers more than an initial reaction, where there is often a slow defuse of more serious concerns. The materials he uses are diverse and vary between bodies of work. A commonality of his artworks is that they are fabricated by hand and evidence of this making is apparent.

With this show we present a large scale sculpture from his iconic ‘Cloud’ series along with a number of Cloud marquette’s and other sculptural pieces.

We are holding an opening event on Friday February 9th, 5-7pm. Please join us, all are welcome to attend, Iain will be present.

I have been writing poems about clouds and water for awhile…

I should really stop but I cannot

Clouds appear then disappear, free, moody and infinite

Water for better or for worse is a tempestuous marriage

If you cartoon a cloud, it becomes a portal for thinking

And I was thinking…

That we are like water as we are part water

and precipitation is like writing

condensation is like making

evaporation is like thinking

and collection is us all sleeping
